Custom domains

Point your own domain at your app. HTTPS is automatic and there's no redeploy.

Hobby includes 1 custom domain, Pro 5 and Team 20. HTTPS certificates are issued and renewed for you.

Add a domain

Add it in the dashboard

Go to Domains, pick the project and type your domain: www.example.com or example.com.

The Domains page with a domain waiting for DNS

Create the DNS records at your registrar

The dashboard shows two records with their exact values. Copy them into your registrar's DNS settings (Cloudflare, Namecheap, GoDaddy, OVH…):

TypeNameValueWhy
TXT_dockhosting-verify.www.example.comdockhosting=… (your token)Proves the domain is yours
CNAMEwww.example.commy-app.dockhosting.cloudSends visitors to your app

For a root domain (example.com), a CNAME isn't allowed: the dashboard shows an A record to our IP address instead.

Wait for the check

We check your records every few minutes. As soon as the TXT record is found, the domain shows Verified and starts routing to your app. No redeploy needed: it's live within seconds.

Cloudflare users

Set the CNAME to DNS only (grey cloud) while the certificate is issued. You can turn the proxy on afterwards, with SSL mode Full.

DNS can take a while

Most registrars publish records in minutes, but some take up to a few hours. Check yours from a terminal:

dig +short TXT _dockhosting-verify.www.example.com
dig +short CNAME www.example.com

Remove a domain

Remove it in Domains. It stops routing at once, again without a redeploy.

Keep the TXT record

We re-check every verified domain once a day. If its TXT record stays missing for a week, the domain is released from your app, so someone who buys the domain after you can use it.
